My Brilliant Career
My mom, a bit of an independent free spirit, loved "My Brilliant Career" - and other Gillian Armstrong movies. I, as a teenager, was also fond of this adaptation of a 1901 novel by Miles Franklin (a woman, and a very cool one!) about frizzy-haired free-thinker Sybylla, coming of age on the Australian middle of nowhere. Judy Davis stars and is just fantastic, as always. This movie holds up! It is a lovely and fun watch. And has the best frizz representation ever. Smoldering Sam Will is also great in this movie. Armstrong went on to direct the 1994 "Little Women," and I appreciate her commitment to depicting smart, independent women - also to choosing great actresses to do so.
Frizzy-haired icon!
