Suicidal Tendencies (the band) on 21 Jump Street (the show)
OK caveat, this is about an episode of TV, not at all related to movies! The so-called information age is destroying reality. I had the clearest memory of first hearing the song "Institutionalized," by the great 80's thrash band Suicidal Tendencies, on an episode of 21 Jump Street, which I loved back in the day (late '80s). They have been playing the show on a free Roku channel so I've been watching it in the background. But I remember this show having so many good needle drops, Tone Loc, Billy Idol, maybe Depeche Mode? Obviously because of stupid rights issues, they have all been scrubbed from the show, leaving it a lot more boring. But I remembered the ST episode being a really good one and I wanted to know which one it was. Google kept on insisting it didn't happen. I tried so many different ways to find it, so many different searches. At last the depths of Reddit threads led me to the blessed Internet Archive, all hail, whose German DVD upload is single-handedly preserving reality. Fellow internauts foundering on the sea of nonsense, rather than surfing a cool wave of information, I can confirm: Suicidal Tendencies' "Institutionalized" is in the original 1989 episode "Mike's POV," season 4, episode 9. It's good - Glen Morgan and James Wong, the X-Files guys, wrote it! - and the song is an all-timer. Don't need permission to decide what you believe!
